Stack Baseline Out-of-Bounds Play

Four players stack vertically along the lane line and release in a scripted sequence to the corner, block, wing, and top, giving the inbounder a clear first, second, and safety read.

Reads & options

  • 1. If the corner isn't open, the second read is the block player cutting opposite for a quick post touch.
  • 2. The top-of-stack safety outlet is there so the inbounder always has a release valve versus pressure.
  • 3. Disguise which stack player releases first from game to game so the defense can't jump the first read.

Coaching points

  • · Every player in the stack needs a clear release order — chaos happens when two players cut to the same spot at once.
  • · The inbounder should have a full five-count and shouldn't panic-pass into pressure; use the safety outlet if nothing else is open.
  • · Stack plays work well against both man and zone since the initial alignment doesn't immediately reveal the coverage.
