Box Out-of-Bounds Play
A baseline inbounds set with four players aligned in a box shape, using a cross-screen on the blocks for a quick post touch and a popping shooter as the counter.
Reads & options
- 1. If the cross-screen for the block cut is covered, look immediately to the popping shooter in the corner.
- 2. Versus man defense, the block players should screen for each other at an angle that seals the defender under the rim.
- 3. Versus a switching defense, the inbounder can also look to the weak-side elbow for a quick catch and attack.
Coaching points
- · The inbounder should use a full five-count and let the first action develop before checking down to the counter.
- · The block screeners need to set the cross-screen low and wide, right at the level of the block, not up near the dotted line.
- · Disguise which action is the 'go-to' by running the same alignment with different first options from game to game.
