Reads & options

  • 1. If the cross-screen for the block cut is covered, look immediately to the popping shooter in the corner.
  • 2. Versus man defense, the block players should screen for each other at an angle that seals the defender under the rim.
  • 3. Versus a switching defense, the inbounder can also look to the weak-side elbow for a quick catch and attack.

Coaching points

  • · The inbounder should use a full five-count and let the first action develop before checking down to the counter.
  • · The block screeners need to set the cross-screen low and wide, right at the level of the block, not up near the dotted line.
  • · Disguise which action is the 'go-to' by running the same alignment with different first options from game to game.
