Sideline Ball-Screen Entry

A sideline inbounds play that gets the ball to the point guard at the top and immediately into a ball screen, letting the team flow straight into a side pick-and-roll read off the inbound.

Action — Inbound to the Top & Ball Screen

Reads & options

  • 1. If the defense hedges the screen hard, the screener can slip to the rim instead of setting a solid screen.
  • 2. If the ball-handler's defender fights over, attack downhill off the screen toward the rim.
  • 3. Run this after any dead ball to get an immediate action started instead of walking the ball up and setting an offense.

Coaching points

  • · The inbounder should hit the point guard the moment they show for the ball at the top — don't let the defense deny the entry pass.
  • · The screener needs to time the screen to arrive right as the point guard catches, not a beat early or late.
  • · Keep the weak side spaced so the screen actually creates a driving angle instead of clogging the middle.
