Wide Pick-and-Roll
A ball screen set wide near the sideline instead of the middle of the floor, giving the ball-handler a driving angle straight down the baseline instead of into the teeth of the defense.
Reads & options
- 1. If the defense goes under the screen, the ball-handler should pull up immediately for the open jumper.
- 2. If the screener's defender hedges out to the sideline, the screener has a wide-open roll straight to the rim.
- 3. Kick out to the top for a reset if both defenders load up on the baseline side.
Coaching points
- · The screener should set the screen right at the level of the ball-handler, angled to open a driving lane down the sideline.
- · The ball-handler needs to stay tight off the screener's hip — drifting away from the screen lets the defender slide through.
- · Keep the strong-side corner spaced low so the driving lane down the baseline doesn't get clogged by a standing shooter.
