Ball Screen Rescreen

A ball-screen counter where the screener immediately resets a second screen in a slightly different spot when the defense fights over the first one, giving the ball-handler a second driving angle in the same possession.

Reads & options

  • 1. If the defense switches on the rescreen, look to post up the mismatch immediately.
  • 2. If both defenders trail on the rescreen, the ball-handler should have a clean driving lane straight to the rim.
  • 3. The screener can slip to the rim instead of rescreening if his own defender jumps out too aggressively the first time.

Coaching points

  • · The screener needs to feel the defense fighting over the first screen before committing to the rescreen — it isn't automatic every time.
  • · The ball-handler should stay patient off the first screen instead of forcing a drive, giving the rescreen time to arrive.
  • · Keep the rescreen close to the first screen's spot so the ball-handler doesn't have to travel far to use it.
